Machine Learning In Finance by Bob Mather

PRODUCT REVIEW

For me this was a little bit of a boring book only because I am not into this stuff but more so I just don’t understand it all. The author covers a lot of information which first is Financial Machine Learning. In this section he covers understanding what Artificial Intelligence is, how to understand the machine learning, learning the machine in financial situations, discussions on predictions are what ML algorithms do and what the weaknesses are in financial machine learning.

Then the next section is about Developing a Trading Strategy for Stocks which he covers the 4 primary methods of trading, Same Day Trading, Positional Trading, Trend Trading and Scalping.

Then next he covers The Plan for Machine Learning which goes into understanding how stocks work. Knowing how it is all calculated because the information is not real time.

Then he goes into Machine Learning to Determine Value of Current Stocks. Here he covers training your machine learning algorithm quarterly not annually. Here he covers the common sense method, trend trading which he has several grafts giving you data with examples. Then there is the most common machine learning method, support victor regression algorithm. And here again he has grafts and formulas giving you examples.

Then there is the section that covers how to Determine the Optimal Time to Buy stocks. Here he talks about you not fully going automate, using the support victor regression technique and using the cluster analysis to find good businesses.

Then you have the Machine Language Algorithm to Predict Selling a Stock. Here you learn how to set up safe trade signals, the pros and cons of having a machine trade for you and predicting the trend.

Then last is Determining the Value of a Penny Stock. Here he covers such things as long history data is not good though history of debt is good, the difference between penny trading and day trading, clustering techniques and CLARANS-Clustering Large Applications with Randomized Search.

Then finally you are given the authors opinion of the best software to automate your trading decisions and he briefly discusses fully automated online trading.
